The 2012 champion was unable to repeat his heroic performance from the previous round, as Auger-Aliassime prevailed 6-2 6-3 6-4. Having endured a near five-hour marathon win over Yoshihito Nishioka two days ago, the 33-year old did not have much left in the tank.

The young Canadian broke Murray to begin the first set, and employed his speed and athleticism to frustrate the Scotsman. A second break saw Auger-Aliassime take the first set, with Murray unable to get the ball past his opponent.

The former World No.1 matched the youngster in the second set, with no breaks occurring till the eighth game. It was then that the Canadian applied more pressure to Murray, securing the vital break and consolidating to hold a two set lead.

Never one to give up, Murray displayed his fighting spirit as he struggled to find a hole in his opponent's game. However, Auger-Aliassime's serve was impeccable; he hit 24 aces and won 89% of points on his first serve. The 20-year old never faced a break point, and limited Murray to just nine winners in the entire match. Match rust and fatigue soon set in, as the Brit surrendered the crucial break at 2-2. With his sights set on the finish line, the Canadian held serve to close out the match after two hours and seven minutes.

Auger-Aliassime will face the winner between 23rd seed Dan Evans and France's Corentin Moutet. Conversely, Murray will have ample time to recover and prepare for the European clay-court events, which culminate with Roland Garros.
