The men's semifinals at the
Rome Open will see
Daniil Medvedev take on
Stefanos Tsitsipas and
Holger Rune take on
Casper Ruud with a place in the final at stake.
The men's semi-finals in Rome are a rather exciting pair of matches with many storylines. The first one will be between Tsitsipas and Medvevedev and they do have some history. They exchanged words on a tennis court several years ago and since then their relationship has been rather chilly. Footage from Rome showed them passing each other without even greeting each other so that tells you all you need to know.
Tsitsipas is generally the better clay player and likes the surface more but Medvedev has been a tough matchup for him since forever. It's tough to call who will win but both have a really good chance, especially Medvedev after putting together a spectacular season so far. The second one won't be any worse with Ruud and Rune sharing history as well.
They played a heated Roland Garros match last year with the due exchanging words during the handshake and after the match. It's unclear how the relationship is now but there will certainly be plenty of fire from Rune who is one of the most passionate players out there. A final in an ATP 1000 is also at stake.
