Arthur Fils lost in the Quarter-Finals of the Indian Wells Open reaching an ATP 1000 latter stage for the first time in his career but he has made the sudden decision despite that to part ways with his coach Sébastien Grosjean.
Fils was defeated 4-6, 6-2, 6-7 in favour of Medvedev who went on to be defeated in the semi-finals. But despite victories prior over Marcos Giron, Lorenzo Musetti and Gabriel Diallo, it seems his mind is made up.
"We both decided to end my collaboration. I thank him for the last 15 months with him and wish him the best for the future," he wrote on his Instagram story.
This split is despite Fils winning two ATP 500 titles last year and making it to a Quarter-Finals this week in the category prior to a Grand Slam. He also smashed his racquet after the loss to Medvedev as he saw an opportunity slip away.
He has not yet announced who his replacement is. Albeit despite reaching that Quarter-Finals, his coach wasn't actually present according to L'Equipe. The Frenchman was accompanied instead by Ivan Cinkus, a Croatian who will likely remain his coach for now.
The same report stated that he is in no hurry to hire a new coach at this moment on a permanent basis albeit it seems like it was a sudden choice with Grosjean set to return for the clay court season initially in the run up to Roland Garros.
But now he sits in a state of limbo after being suddenly fired and Fils now looks for the next coach who he will hope can take him to a level he has not yet reached in his fledgling career thus far.
He has yet to fully kick on as of yet despite good results at times and will look to take on the mantle that has been held by Adrian Mannarino and Ugo Humbert for some time in France.
