Former world number one Victoria Azarenka amusingly trolled her partner and former world number one Andy Murray in the mixed doubles charity exhibition match. The contest took place just before the start of the Australian Open 2025, and it was led by Serbia’s legendary tennis star, Novak Djokovic.
The first Grand Slam of the year will begin in less than a week where players from all over the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize. In the charity exhibition match, Murray, who retired from professional tennis in 2024 because of a fitness concern, looked a bit out of sorts in the contest.
That did not please his partner Sabalenka, who asked Djokovic whether she can replace the former world number one with his son. "Novak, I heard your son is a very good player. Can I substitute him for Andy?" asked Azarenka. Djokovic refused the offers straight away with a clear ‘no’ whereas Murray was heard muttering in the background, saying ‘so harsh’.
All that was done in a good spirit. Murray, who is now the coach of his former rival and 24-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic, explained in a hilarious manner his primary objective while working with the Belgrade-born star and stated that he is looking to ‘sabotage’ the 37-year-old’s chances of winning another major title.
"Played here a few times," said Murray. "Could never quite go over the line, unfortunately, this man [Djokovic] was single-handedly responsible for that. So I'm now here to try and sabotage his chances of winning another one."
