French tennis star
Corentin Moutet has been handed a hefty
fine for an outburst against the chair umpire during the
Australian Open 2025. The
first Grand Slam of the year is slowly but surely moving towards the business end, where the remaining players are giving their all to secure the ultimate prize.
Just like every competition, few players have received hefty
fines for their misconduct on the court. The latest addition to that list has
been French tennis player Moutet. As per the latest report, the 25-year-old was
handed a $15,000 fine for an outburst on the chair umpire during the
second-round clash against America’s Mitchell Krueger.
The Neuilly-sur-Seine-born player was heard saying to the
chair umpire: “Man, every night, all the referees are getting drunk here. And
then the next day, they are ruining the game. How is that possible, man?”.
Interestingly, he ended up winning the contest with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6,
6-4. His journey in the competition ended in the third round to America’s Learner
Tien with a score of 7-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Previously, former world number one Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev
was handed a hefty fine of $76,000 for his behaviour during his shocking defeat
in the second round of the first Grand Slam of the year to Tien in a five-set
thriller with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 1-6, 7-6. The one-time Grand Slam
winner received a fine of $10,000 for just breaking the GoPro camera attached
to the net during a frustrating outing. He later accepted his behaviour was not
exemplary.
"Honestly I hope not too big [the fine for breaking the
camera] because probably, like, the fine is usually for breaking the racket,
and the camera is going to cost some, but I don't think GoPro is that expensive,”
he said. “But what I have to say is that the camera was very, very strong,
because my racket didn't handle the damage but the camera did."
