Dan Evans got Great Britain on the board with a stellar performance against Peter Gojowczyk who was very erratic losing 2-6 1-6.
A great start for Great Britain in the
Davis Cup quarterfinals as Dan Evans easily bested Gojowczyk in the first match with 6-2 6-1. The British player had a superb plan in the match against the German who plays a high-risk type of game that can be quite effective. Today it wasn't because the German struggled immensely against Evans who was superb defensively.
Always ready to compete and always ready to give the extra effort and run on the court, Evans was able to counter Gojowczyk's aggressive playstyle with ease. The German committed error after error and generally struggled to keep the ball in the court which was a perfect scenario for Evans. The Brit also served well enough to keep the German at bay which resulted in a very quick 6-2 first set finish.
The 2nd was even better by Evans who started becoming aggressive much more being the one to finish points this time around. He hit some amazing shots to frustrate Gojowczyk even further and the German simply melted down in the 2nd. More errors and a very composed Evans resulted in a 6-1 2nd set thrashing for the impressive victory in just 55 minutes.
Cam Norrie is coming up against Struff and the Brit will have the chance to send his nation into the semifinals.
