Jack Draper
was forced to withdraw from the 2025
United Cup due to a hip injury. The World
No. 15 was set to lead the British team alongside
Katie Boulter in the mixed
team event starting in a week's time.
A few days
ago, reports surfaced that Draper had canceled a scheduled practice session
with Carlos Alcaraz due to physical discomfort, though no details were provided
at the time. Now, Draper has confirmed that a hip injury will prevent him from
representing Great Britain in Sydney.
Draper announces withdrawal from United Cup
Despite
this setback, the 22-year-old hopes to be in good shape for the first Grand
Slam of the year. “As I work to get on top of my hip injury and get match fit,
I have unfortunately been advised not to play in the United Cup,” Draper
announced on social media.
“While we
are positive about competing at the Aus Open this year, I know I won’t be able
to jump straight back into a packed schedule as I manage and strengthen my hip…
gutted as I was really looking forward to play in the United Cup for the first
time.”
“Together
with Leon [Smith; Britain’s Captain], we have also made the difficult decision
for me to sit out of the upcoming Davis Cup match in Japan in order to give me
the opportunity post Aus Open to complete the rehab and strengthening of my
hip.”
Team Great
Britain debuts on December 30 against Argentina. Billy Harris will replace
Draper as the men’s singles player. In the series against the South Americans,
they will face Tomas Etcheverry and Nadia Podoroska. For their second group tie
against Australia, they will challenge Alex De Minaur and Olivia Gadecki.
