Ex-coach of the former world number one Serena Williams,
Rennae Stubbs, has clarified why she did not talk about domestic violence issue
while talking about Germany’s
Alexander Zverev. The 27-year-old is regarded as
one of the most high-profile players currently playing in men’s tennis in the
singles category.
Zverev had a rough day in the final of the
Australian Open
recently as he came second best against the current world number one Italy’s
Jannik Sinner in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. After the match, the
current world number two had an awkward moment in the prize distribution ceremony
when a women kept interrupting him as he was trying to speak, citing domestic
violence controversy.
Zverev’s performance in the Australian Open was the point of
discussion during the Stubbs’ recent podcast where they talked in detail. A fan
on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — praised the
podcast but questioned why there was no discussion about the domestic violence
issue. "Another great pod mate. However, why no mention of Zverev being
called out by the lady in the audience at the trophy ceremony?,” the fan
questioned.
Stubbs responded to the comment by stating that the focus of
her podcast was to talk about positive things. "Honestly we didn't even
think about it. Had more positive things to talk about," she wrote. Stubbs
further went on to clarified her comment and stated that she has already talked
about the issue in the past and has decided to move on from the issue.
"Well that's other pods & good for them...I have
talked about it enough & have said my peace when it comes to him & the
whole story. I wanted to talk about the tennis & the great storylines.
Sometimes u just forget about stuff. Also other pods can't talk about the
tennis like us!" she wrote.
