Nick Kyrgios has suggested that retirement could soon be coming after opening up in an 'emotional' TikTok post days after leaving Indian Wells in tears after retiring against Botic van de Zandschulp.

Kyrgios cut short his practice session earlier in the week after being seen grabbing his right wrist that he had previously had surgery on. He was forced to retire against the Dutchman who went on to dump out Novak Djokovic. He showed some fight against Van de Zandschulp who was a lucky loser before finally giving up.

He stormed back from 4-1 down in the first set to force a tie-break and had a set point but called the trainer after going a break down in the next set and forfeited in tears. He opened up afterwards about not thinking he would even play in the first place. But that in the ned he thought he would be ok.

He also explained that his doctors told him he may never play professional tennis again. He seems to want to compete while he still can but whether he does remains to be seen. In particular Miami next could be in doubt and it is very much likely to be day to day whether he is ok. Not great for a tennis player.

He wrote a note on TikTok afterwards explaining that he is in the mode now of enjoying what he has while he still has it hinting at potential retirement.

“Gotta let go of what was. You are a new person, new player now,” Kyrgios said on TikTok a day after his injury withdrawal.

“It ain’t easy, but you have to enjoy whatever is left in this tennis journey. I’m a competitor, I always think I’m capable and I always want to play my best.

“But that also stems frustration and anger to myself - I have to be kinder - it is a blessing to still be able to play this sport that has given me so much.”
