Australia’s tennis star Alex de Minaur has revealed that he will find a way to take part in the quarterfinal of Wimbledon despite showing signs of fitness struggles. The third Grand Slam of the year is moving towards conclusion where remaining players are giving their all to secure the ultimate prize.
De Minaur booked his place in the last-eight of the mega-event after beating Arthur Fils of France in the round of 16 with a score of 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. During the contest, the Sydney-born star showed signs of discomfort and did not even celebrate properly as well after the win.
Talking after the match, the world number nine expressed optimism that he will be fine to take part in the last-eight contest and that he will ’find a way’. “I’ll be all right. I’ll find a way,” he said. “No, thank you guys. Atmosphere was unbelievable, super proud of myself to be in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon, playing in front of you guys, so thank you.”
De Minaur will have a tough opponent in the quarterfinal in the face of the former world number one Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic. The 37-year-old, who is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles, booked his spot in the last-eight after beating Denmark’s Holger Rune in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
It will be the fourth meeting between the two in professional tennis. In the previous three meetings, Djokovic has a slight edge with two wins compared to just one defeat. Interestingly, none of those meetings took place on the grass court. Their most recent meeting was during the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this year where Djokovic came out on top in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
