Jannik Sinner continues to break new boundaries but it is not on court that his latest record comes of sorts. His match against Alexander Zverev was watched by a total of 3.5million viewers with a 33% share of the total audience.
There was a peak of 5 million viewers on match point at 12:28pm on Warner Bros channels in Discovery as well as Channel Nine and Eurosport. But it was back home they also experienced a new record. A historic record for NOVE, an Italian free-to-air TV channel owned by Warner Bros, with 7.5% share of total audience in 24 hours. It was the number one national channel during that slot with 22% share and 2.4 million viewers.
On Eurosport, it reached over 1.1 million viewers with an 11% share of the total audience and 48.5% pay-TV share. The entire portfolio of channels owned by Warner Bros recorded a best result ever with 1.6 million viewers equalling 16% share.
It was a pressure to defend his title that Sinner took in his stride. "Coming here defending the title, it’s always different," he said as per Eurosport.
"You have this extra pressure, but I always enjoy it. Every match has been very, very tough and [in] the final, the pressure is different.
"It’s a tough day for Sascha [Zverev] because he already had some Grand Slam finals – very tough ones. I got lucky in the second set tie-break with the net cord and everything. He was a bit down, and I tried to keep him up a little bit. It was very difficult.
"But talking from my side, I’m obviously very happy. My team, we know how hard we worked for this one, and I appreciate all the support I had these two weeks."
"I do struggle sometimes inside, but with tennis, you have days when you feel a bit worse, but in my mind, I know that every day can be different, and I can raise my level from every day and that’s what I was searching for," he explained.
"Coming here without playing any tournaments before, not knowing exactly what’s going to come, and I just tried to stay very focused about these moments. In my mind, I know that I’m well-prepared for tough battles, and I’ve shown that for these two weeks."
This is such a great picture. Jannik Sinner with his third Grand Slam trophy, photographed in front of his trophy cabinet in 20 years if he keeps it up. What is and what could be. Powerful visualization ✨
