World No.1,
Jannik Sinner is doing the business straight from the China Open and like his fellow finalist this week in Carlos Alcaraz, he is through at the
Shanghai Masters.
Sinner saw off Taro Daniel 6-1, 6-4 to open up his Shanghai Masters campaign. He became the first player born in the 2000's to reach 250 wins and remains on track to surpass his bst from last season of 64. Something which is a true barometer of the form of the Italian. Also it stands head and shoulders ahead as an Italian man in the Open Era.
"I felt quite comfortable today," said the 23-year-old. "I feel in good shape also physically, which is very important for me. Of course I will try to improve for tomorrow's performance, but today I was serving really, really well, especially in important moments, and was moving well."
Sinner now sits at 14-0 in opening round matches this year and has reached the Quarter-Finals in all 13 tournaments played in 2024. He is 51-0 against players outside the top 20 in the past season too.
He now faces 31st seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the third round with a potential Shanghai rematch against Ben Shelton on the way. One year after Shelton knocked him out in Shanghai. But despite the cloud of the doping ordeal hanging over the World No.1, he continues to battle through and provide the goods.
