While the score makes it seem easy it really wasn't as Simon gave Medvedev quite a bit of trouble in the 7-5 6-4 win.
Gilles Simon plays a very annoying style to play against and Medvedev knows that. He was 0-3 against Simon before this match finally getting a win today. It was a very predictable style from Simon who pushed the ball back close to the baseline forcing Medvedev to adjust.
It was a slow adjustment as the Russian was down 2-5 in the opening set finally getting into the match at that point. He won 5 games in a row to capture the opening set as Simon's gave fell apart after he failed to close out the set earlier. The Frenchman had 3 set points overall but he failed to use one on his serve and two on Medvedev's.
It annoyed him and he was visibly upset but that's how Medvedev plays. The Russian continued playing well and taking Simon's game apart in the 2nd set jumping out to an early lead. He ran into some issues at 3-2 having to save a couple of break points but he did it successfully to hold the lead 4-2. The match finished with Medvedev winning the 2nd one with 6-4.
