Andy Murray responded to Novak Djokovic's comments at the Brisbane International shortly after enjoying a family ski holiday. The 3-time Grand Slam champion is spending a few days skiing with his family before heading to Melbourne for the Australian Open.

Murray, recently announced as Djokovic’s coach, is not attending this week's Brisbane International, where Djokovic has already debuted in singles and doubles. However, the Scotsman had planned a family trip with his wife Kim and their four children, which was honoured despite his agreement to coach the Serbian star.

Djokovic worries, Murray jokes: Ski trip takes centre stage

Djokovic paired with Nick Kyrgios in doubles this week, and after their match, he was asked about Murray’s absence from his box. "He's actually skiing at the moment. He has a family ski trip, and I'm sending all my love to the Murray family," said Djokovic.

"I hope he doesn't get injured skiing before he comes to Melbourne; that wouldn't be great!" the 24-time Grand Slam champion joked. "But we spoke before the match; we're communicating daily. I'm excited to have him on my team, in my corner. For over 20 years, he's been across the net. For the first time ever, he'll be on the same side of the net [as me], so it should be fun."

In response, Murray posted a video on social media joking about his former rival’s concerns. "I’m taking on some huge slopes as you can see, but no injuries just yet," he said while skiing down the mountains.

As for the singles draw, Djokovic had an impressive debut, defeating local player Rinky Hijikata 6-3, 6-3 without facing a single break point. He now prepares to face Gael Monfils, against whom he holds a dominant 19-0 head-to-head record.
