Novak Djokovic leads the ATP Race, but who are his closest rivals?

In the opening three months of the new season, we saw one Major and Masters 1000 event, the ATP Cup and three ATP 500 tournaments, enough to check the ATP Race to Turin.

World no. 1 Novak Djokovic has played only nine matches so far in 2021, winning them all at the ATP Cup and the Australian Open for a perfect score and 2140 points on his tally. Following the ninth Australian Open crown in February, Novak decided to rest and recharge batteries ahead of the clay swing, returning to the court next week at the season's second Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo.

The Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev has taken 17 victories from 20 matches this year, earning only ten points fewer than Novak in the battle for Turin! The Russian claimed the title for his country at the ATP Cup alongside Andrey Rublev, extending his winning streak that started in Paris last year and reaching the second Major final in Melbourne.

Novak proved to be too strong, beating Daniil in straight sets to defend the crown and keep the Russian empty-handed. Daniil won the ATP title in Marseille before losing to Roberto Bautista Agut in the Miami Open quarter-final, failing to pass Novak and become the ATP Race leader.

Andrey Rublev has collected 1800 points after a 20-4 score in 2021, playing on a high level in Melbourne and winning the fourth straight ATP 500 title in Rotterdam. After that, the Russian reached three consecutive semi-finals in Doha, Dubai and Miami, withdrawing from Marbella and hoping for a strong start on clay in Monte Carlo next week. Stefanos Tsitsipas is fourth in the ATP Race after 17 wins and four notable results.

The Greek was the Australian Open semi-finalist, repeating the same round in Rotterdam. Stefanos lost the Acapulco final to Alexander Zverev and fell to Hubert Hurkacz in the Miami Open quarter-final. The Miami Open champion Hubert Hurkacz is fifth, ahead of Aslan Karatsev, the Miami finalist Jannik Sinner, the only teenager in the top-20, and Alexander Zverev.
