The next day of the Madrid Open 2025 comes loaded with strong emotions, with Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton and Casper Ruud all in action.
After a Saturday full of surprises in the Spanish capital, with Novak Djokovic unexpectedly bowing out in the first round, this Sunday in Madrid we will have many of the stars of the Tour looking to earn their ticket to the next round in the second Masters on clay of the season.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina - Alexander Zverev
Germany's Alexander Zverev is coming back to his best on German clay, winning his third title at the BMW Munich Open 2025. After an excellent start and a subsequent slump, it seems that Sascha is gaining momentum to arrive in Paris in the best possible shape.
His opponent will be Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich, the second best home hope after Carlos Alcaraz. Davidovich has proven throughout the year that he is a serious threat to anyone, scoring several important victories against top 10 opponents.
In the head-to-head there is a clear superiority of Zverev, although it is true that it has been almost two years since the two players have faced each other on the Tour.

Ben Shelton - Jakub Mensik
Perhaps the best American so far on this European clay court tour, Ben Shelton is not satisfied with having reached the final in Munich, and is gaining confidence after defeating several specialists on this surface;
In his presentation at the Caja Mágica he defeated the Argentine Mariano Navone and against the last champion of the Miami Open he starts as favorite.
Mensik had an important setback in Munich, where he was knocked out in his presentation against an unknown local player. After leaving everyone speechless in Florida, the Czech player is looking to get back to his best tennis.

The Russian, last champion in the Caja Magica, is a regular top 10 player but risks losing his place if he falls early in Madrid. His power from the baseline has given him excellent results on the clay tour before, but he is still trying to find his best so far this season.
In front of him will be the Kazakh Alexander Bublik, a player characterized by his charisma and also by the unpredictability of his game, that if he is on, he can put almost anyone in trouble;

Casper Ruud - Sebastian Korda
Norwegian Casper Ruud, pre-qualified number 14 of the tournament and finalist of the 2021 edition, comes to this duel after defeating French Arthur Rinderknech with authority. It has not been the best year for Ruud, who has fallen out of the top 10 after a long time and is having trouble establishing himself on Tour. After two premature exits in Monte Carlo and Barcelona (on his favorite surface), he will try to advance in Madrid looking for points to keep up with the main pack.
Sebastian Korda, the 23rd seed, has also shown signs of inconsistency in the clay-court season, losing two of his last three matches prior to Madrid. The American, however, beat young Federico Cina in three sets and is looking to reach the round of 16 for the first time in the Spanish capital. It will be the first meeting between the two players.
