Andy Roddick praised the
French Open organizers for increasing the
prize money.
The only
clay court Grand Slam has increased the total prize money to 49.6 million
Euros, equivalent to 54 million dollars, which represents a 12% growth compared
to 2022.
WThe
majority of the increase will benefit players in the earlier rounds, with
qualifiers and first-round losers being the biggest beneficiaries of the
increase. Roddick praised the news because it will help players ranked around
the world No. 100.
“This is
great news. You know, listen, it’s tough being in the 90-105 range on tour. And
since the Challengers don’t offer much prize money, you have to motivate that
level with a break in the top 104,” 2003 US Open champion said.
And this is
the payoff for being successful in those Challengers. So, props to Roland
Garros, and happy to see it,” Roddick concluded.
