Schwartzman and Humbert advance at the Paris Masters

Diego Schwartzman and Ugo Humbert put forward stellar performances on Thursday to advance to the next round of the Paris Masters.

Diego Schwartzman continued his great form in Paris with another stellar performance at the Paris Masters smashing Davidovich Fokina 6-1 6-1 in 61 minutes. It was a very interesting start to the match where Fokina had several break points in the first game but used neither of them. After that, he got completely smashes by Schwartzman which was unusual as the Spaniard usually fights very hard even when losing. This time around he got completely swept by Schwartzman who looked more interested in the match and played with much more energy.

Another interesting matchup was the one between Cilic and Humbert. The Frenchman won in impressive fashion against Tsitsipas in a very long match and Cilic played well against Auger-Aliassime and won. Both of them spent quite a bit of time on the court but while Cilic looked sluggish early Humbert thrived. The Frenchman took an early break and lead but Cilic fought back to make it 3-3. The match continued with Humbert playing a bit better which allowed him some more break points later which he used to win the set 6-3.

The 2nd set opened with good serving from both of them as neither could find ways to carve out a break point. Midway through the set Cilic finally fought his way to a break points but failed to use it so the score remained tied. It was a great display of strong serving and play because both players maintained a win percentage of over 90 % on their first serve throughout the set. Ultimately in the tiebreak Cilic played better and won it 7-4.

The final set opened similarly to the previous two with both players winning service games with ease. Midway through the set, Humbert found himself with a great chance having several break points on Marin's serve. He would use it and take a 5-2 lead before ending the match 6-3.
