Alexander Zverev has yet to win a grand slam and his compatriot
Boris Becker believes he can do it at the
Australian Open.
Zverev showed a new level of his tennis in 2021 at several events with the German clearly establishing himself as the 3rd best player in the world. Boris Becker and many other noted the change in Zverev and he hopes that will finally allow him to win his maiden grand slam. Becker believes it's possible even at the Australian Open:
"Zverev is now in the form of his life and the big titles have to come. If
it doesn’t happen this year, then the next generation will come and the
pressure will increase a bit. Questions will get louder. We are still at the beginning of the year and I am confident that Sascha [Zverev] can win the Australian Open. But it won’t be a walk in the park."
Winning a grand slam is never easy and Becker is well aware of that:
“The competitors will not be sleeping; the top players will no longer
have any pressure when they play Sascha Zverev in the second week. He
is suddenly the favourite and people expect him to reach at least the
semi-finals. That’s a different expectation and you have to be able to
deal with that.”
