Stan Wawrinka played another strong match in his native Switzerland beating
Brandon Nakashima 6-4 5-7 6-4.
It was a sturdy performance by Wawrinka albeit one that saw him go to three sets when he really didn't need to. The Swiss player was really strong on his own serve from the start and eventually, he was able to wait for his chance to come.
Nakashima lacks experience and it cost him in the opening set as Wawrinka was able to wait for his chance and then pounce 6-4. The second set was another solid one from Wawrinka and he was once again the better player.
He was up 5-4 serving for the match but lost that game which started a major slip in his play that ended with him losing the set 5-7. Nakashima was very fortunate to escape with a 7-5 set win as he should have lost 4-6.
The final set was another strong one from the Swiss player who was able to wait for his chance once more and take it when it came 6-4. He was simply better in the crucial moments and had fewer errors. In a close match like this, it was more than enough.
