Former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash shared his thoughts on the rivalry between
Jannik Sinner and
Carlos Alcaraz after their latest match at the
Six Kings Slam. The Italian secured the victory 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 and took home the trophy along with the largest prize money in history, over $6 million.
Sinner managed to break a streak of three consecutive losses to Alcaraz, and although it wasn't an official match, it was his first win of the year against the Spaniard. Both players have delivered some of the best matches in recent years as their rivalry continues to grow.
Pat Cash served as one of Sky Sports Tennis commentators after the match in Riyadh. According to the former World No. 4, Sinner and Alcaraz have quickly forged an epic rivalry, comparable to the clashes between the Big-3 over the last 20 years. “They’re the two best players in the world, and we’ve seen that over the last generation with the top three players.”
“And you’ve got to include
Andy Murray, we haven’t talked much about Andy Murray this week. We keep talking about Nadal, Djokovic, Federer but you throw Andy Murray in there as well. These four players have just pushed each other to another level, and they’ve [Sinner and Alcaraz] come off the back of this, seeing this level as young players and thought, this is what I’ve got to do.”
The head-to-head stands at 6-4, led by Carlos Alcaraz, who at 21 years old already has 4 Grand Slam titles (16 in total). As for Sinner, 23 years old, he has 2 Grand Slam titles (both this year) and has accumulated 17 titles in total, just one more than his rival.
