Australia’s Nick Kyrgios has taken another dig at Italy’s Jannik Sinner in a post on social media. The 29-year-old is famous for being one of the most outspoken players currently playing in professional tennis. It is because of this reason that the former world number 13 has been involved in some controversies as well.
Kyrgios remains one of the most vocal players criticising Sinner after the reigning world number one escaped a ban despite testing positive for the banned substance clostebol back in March in two doping tests. The 23-year-old, who is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, escaped a ban after the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) accepted his counsel’s response where they claimed that the availability of the banned substance in the player’s sample was because of receiving cream from one member of the coaching staff to treat an injury.
That decision received criticism from certain quarters of the tennis community who demanded an equal treatment for all players who are going through similar controversies. Recently, Tennis Australia has awarded Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill the 2024 Coaching Excellence award after the young Italian star had a fabulous season where he won the Australian Open, the US Open, the ATP Finals and finished the season as the world number one, having a lead of more than 3,000 rating points over his closest rival in the ATP rankings.
Kyrgios, in a post on his official account on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — has taken another dig at Sinner by criticising Tennis Australia’s decision and called it a joke. “This is a joke right – have some class and integrity people,” he wrote. Sinner’s doping case is far from over as the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has appealed against the ITIA’s decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sports and demanded a two year suspension for the reigning world number one.
This is a joke right 😂 - have some class and integrity people.
