The Polish player was able to find some of the magic from Miami at SW19 winning several matches in a row and reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals. He reached it by defeating Medvedev who had a 2-1 lead when the match got suspended. When they return it was Hurkacz who dominated from start to finish.
After the match he said:
“Playing on this unbelievable court, probably the best in the world, with an amazing crowd is really special. Daniil is an unbelievable player. We battled so hard on No. 2 Court. So to win is incredible… I knew I needed to get off to a strong start today and I think I did a pretty good job.”
The next opponent for Hurkacz is Roger Federer which in itself is a tough job. Playing him in Wimbledon is even more tough considering the iconic status Federer has at SW19. Asked about that he said:
“Roger, what he does, the titles he has won, is a real inspiration. I will be hoping to get a little bit of support tomorrow.”
