Neither Korda nor Alcaraz have ever won an ATP trophy before and while this is a special one played under a different format it's still a trophy. The Spanish player and the American were the best by far this week and they clashed in the final. Alcaraz had a slow start but managed to pull through securing the first set after which he cruised.
Speaking after he said:
“It is amazing. To be able to win this tournament means a lot to me. I am so excited right now and emotional. I was very, very nervous at the start. I had to be calm to save the break points. I know Korda is serving very well, so I had to play my best in those moments.”
Despite amazing play all week long Alcaraz showed at times his inexperience but he also showed a lot of poise to overcome adversity whenever he faced it. His ability to focus tremendously when he needs to is something he will need in the pros:
“It went 0/30 on my serve [when serving for the match]. So I had to be focused in that moment and I had to stay calm. It was really, really tough.”
