Garbine Muguruza faced
Anett Kontaveit in the 2021
WTA Finals and the Spaniard was able to complete a brilliant event with a trophy.
The 2021 WTA Finals were held in Guadalajara and the experience was a very positive one for the players who enjoyed playing at the event. It was held outdoors which is kind of atypical for this time of the year but the warm climate of Mexico allowed for it. That suited Garbine Muguruza quite a bit who played an amazing event beating Anett Kontaveit in the group stage.
It was the first time the Estonian lost in almost a month so it was kind of a surprise. In the final, they faced off again and in the rematch, it was Muguruza once more who proved better. The win was a straightforward one by Muguruza who defeated Kontaveit 6-3 7-5 and it came due to a brilliant combination of both offensive and defensive tennis. Muguruza is capable of both and she executed the game plan to perfection.
Kontaveit did not play her best and her tremendous level from the baseline was not present. It was only natural that she would cool off from her brilliant run in the prior weeks and it happened here. Check out the highlights of the match below.
