Alexander Zverev and
Diego Schwartzman enjoyed great evening matches against Cecchinato and Gombos with both through to
Roland Garros round 4.
Alexander Zverev played against
Marco Cecchinato and while many expected him to have a tough match against the Italian who enjoys playing and clay and who played well so far it didn't happen. Zverev defeated him in straight sets and quite convincingly as well. Right from the start, Zverev looked sharp as he destroyed Marco in the first set 6-1. Everything worked for him especially the service which set the tone for the rest of the match.
The 2nd was a bit shaky for Zverev especially late when he gave up his serve to Cecchinato who took the 5-3 lead. Unluckily for him, Zverev composed himself and went on a 4 game run to win the set 7-5. That run was possible because of a strong baseline play with shaky serving from the Italian. The final set was one that Zverev controlled from the start till finish and he won it with 6-3.
Diego Schwartzman continued his great form on clay with another victory and this time it was against Norbert Gombos. The Slovakian player had a great start almost winning the first set as he led with 5-2. Unfortunately for him, he allowed Diego to go on a run to tie the score at 5-5 before losing the set in the tiebreak. He never recovered from then and Schwartzman slowly imposed himself on the game.
He took an early break which he gave up soon afterwards but he went on to break Gombos two more times to clinch the 2nd set with 6-3. The final set was a bit shaky for Diego but ultimately he prevailed winning it 6-3.
