The Qatar Open continues with Day Two seeing a shock win for Leylah Fernandez as Emma Navarro has been dumped out on her return to action after the Australian Open. While Iga Swiatek has begun her title defence.

Fernandez sealed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Navarro with Greet Minnen also swept aside yesterday. It was a good week last time out for the Canadian who lost out to Ashlyn Krueger who went on to reach the final.

Krueger though it seemed didn't benefit from the quick turnaround after losing the final of Abu Dhabi to Belinda Bencic. Sofia Kenin accounted for her pretty easily 6-4, 6-4 earlier today. While defending multi time champion Iga Swiatek is also through.

A tough second round tie awaited against Maria Sakkari who saw off Elena-Gabriela Ruse yesterday albeit through retirement but it was a step too far yet in the Greek's comeback who lost pretty easily 6-3, 6-2 in the end. She moves on to attempt to find form again.

Other victors include Daria Kasatkina who won in a whitewash double bagel win over Polina Kudermetova 6-0, 6-0. Her sister Veronika also lost in three sets to Magda Linette.

While there were wins also for Jelena Ostapenko, Rebecca Sramkova as well as Linda Noskova. The latter started the day off easing past Donna Vekic 6-2, 6-4. With most having not played since the Australian Open, the unpredictable nature of the WTA tour continues with many top names heading home.

Later this afternoon Peyton Stearns takes on Dayana Yastremska, while Elina Svitolina will take on Marketa Vondrousova. Paula Badosa concludes the day against Katerina Siniakova. Will there be any more shocks in store in Doha to begin day two?

While Swiatek has eased through, others have found it a bit more difficult to find their way into the next round it seems.
