Former world number 10 Lucas Pouille has admitted that his career might be over with the latest injury. The 30-year-old was set to feature in the final of a Challenger event in Lille but was forced to retire from the contest because of a serious injury. The final score of the match was 6-3, 3-5.

It is believed that Pouille has suffered a complete rupture of the Achilles Tendon. Talking after the match, the Grande-Synthe-born admitted that the recent injury might end his career but expressed a desire to return to the court and vowed to do everything in his power to resume his tennis career sooner rather than later.

"The news is, I think, not good,” he said as quoted by We Love Tennis. “I don't want to make any predictions until there have been tests. But there is a chance that this will be the last match of my career. I think it is a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon. Playing tennis at a high level after that is complicated. I will do everything in my power to come back, in any case I will try. I will talk to the doctors and surgeons. That's how it is, that's life."

Paulie was once amongst the most impressive players playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, but injuries took their toll on him, and he has failed to produce impressive results consistently. His most impressive outing at the highest level came in 2019 when he played in the semifinal of the Australian Open. In that contest, he came second best against the former world number one Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-2, 6-2. Poulie registered his career-best rankings in 2018 when he climbed all the way to the top-10 men’s players in the singles category.
