Australian Open 2025 is moving towards the business end as the remaining players are giving their all to secure the ultimate prize. Like every year, one of the primary purposes of such events is to bring new talent.
This year, it will be no different. The mega-event’s boys and girls edition will soon start and feature some promising players. Two players who will be especially under a lot of focus will be Cruz Hewitt and Emerson Jones.
Cruz, who is the son of the former men’s world number one and Australia’s legendary tennis star Lleyton Hewitt, will feature against Korea’s MooBeen Kim. The 16-year-old recently participated in the qualifying round of the seniors draw, where he lost to Nikoloz Basilashvili in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4. Cruz hopes to make his father proud, who lifted two Grand Slam titles in senior tennis in his illustrious career.
Another 16-year-old who will have a lot of attention going into the contest will be ITF junior’s combined world number one, Emerson Jones. The Gold Coast-born youngster will face Anastasia Lizunova in the round of 64 of the Australian Open Juniors event. She was featured in the seniors category as well, where she was knocked out after losing in the first round to a one-time Grand Slam winner and reigning world number six Elena Rybakina in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-1. She then participated in the doubles category as well but she and her partner Hayden Jones lost in the first round to the pair of Jan Zielinski and Hsieh Su-wei in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 7-5.
