Tennis Australia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Craig Tiley has
revealed the plan to have a bar near the court during the upcoming Australian
Open. The mega-event, which is the first Grand Slam of the year, is held yearly
in January. Players from all over the world participate to showcase their talent
and secure the ultimate prize.
Tennis Australia’s CEO Tiley has been recently quoted in a
report in the English media outlet The Guardian where he revealed an exciting
plan to have a bar near the courts to give fans sitting in the arena the
ultimate experience. The 62-year-old stated that the fans can now buy something
to eat and drink from the bar near the court 16 and 17 during the event. Tiley
was of the opinion that the organisers must evolve to keep the tournament exciting
for the fans.
“You’ll be able to go and have some drinks, enjoy a
cocktail, get something to eat, and watch on court 16 and 17,” he said. “The
idea about the court-side bar was about bringing fans closer to the action, and
let them sit down, get something to eat and get something to drink in a way
where they can really enjoy the tennis. We’ll continue to evolve the precinct,
and together with the Victorian government come up with the ideas that we need
to do, but we never – we should never – take for granted the fact that we have
a really good precinct,”
This year, in the men’s singles category, world number one
Italy’s Jannik Sinner will defend his title. He defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev
in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. In
the women’s singles category, world number two Aryna Sabalenka will be
defending her title. She defeated China’s Qinwen Zheng in the final in straight
sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
