The Western & Southern Open could move from its home of Cincinnati, OH to Charlotte, NC under new plans from owners of the tournament, Beemok Sports and Entertainment.
A staple of the pre US Open calendar, it has had roots in Cincinnati dating back to 1899 and moved to its current area in 1979 with a huge loss to the midwest if this move does come off.
The company behind the tournament plans to build a $400m tennis complex in West Charlotte and will mean a permanent home for the tournament.
Caroline Garcia and Borna Coric won the titles last year and it could bee one of the final years in Cincinnati this time around.

Big if true, as they say. The #CincyTennis tournament has been in the Cincinnati area in various forms dating back to 1899. The suburb of Mason has hosted since 1979, showing Middle America to the world’s stars and vice versa. Would be a massive loss for tennis in the Midwest.
