Coco Gauff recently turned 21 and as part of it, New Balance decided to celebrate with her new signature trainer being released after two previous smash hit releases with the brand. The 'Coco Delray' is designed for the everyday player and is built for all levels.
But in addition, the advertisement was marketing perfection as it featured her grandmother Yvonne Lee Odom, a civil rights trailblazer involved as well as harking back to Gauff's days on the public courts back at Delray Beach hence the name.
A superb showcase of one of the best tennis players in the world, New Balance aimed to show connection, community and the love of the game with their campaign.
Gauff's training at Pompey Park formed a huge part of her formative years and this campaign shows not only herself but the community that helped her become who she is now.
"I'm incredibly proud to launch the new Coco Delray because it's more than just a tennis shoe – it represents an opportunity to broaden access to those interested in playing the game and will have a positive cultural impact for generations to come," said Gauff.
"Delray Beach helped spark my tennis journey, so it's special to me to tell the story of this community that influenced exactly why I love this sport."
The new model which is also in Miami Open yellow colorway launches in time for the second part of the Sunshine Double and will be launched consistently throughout the year in different colorways.
"Our hope with the Coco Delray is to emphasize access to sport for all. It means a lot to Coco that anyone who wants to play tennis should be able to pick up a racquet and play," says Evan Zeder, New Balance Head of Tennis Sports Marketing.
"The Coco Delray represents her ongoing commitment to promoting this inclusivity within the sport, starting in her own backyard," he added.
While Indian Wells saw her lose out to Belinda Bencic who has been devastatingly good as of late, she still has a lot to shout about going forward.
