Mirra Andreeva has been the sensation of recent weeks, stringing together 11 consecutive wins and claiming her first WTA 1000 title at just 17 years old. Coincidentally, the Russian teenager has followed a path strikingly similar to Madison Keys, facing the same opponents from the Round of 16 onwards.
Andreeva has had a curious draw at Indian Wells, fresh off her triumph at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Her last three opponents — as well as the final — mirror those faced by Madison Keys during her run to the Australian Open final.
The American defeated Elena Rybakina, Elina Svitolina, and Iga Swiatek consecutively on her way to the title match. For Andreeva, it has been exactly the same: Rybakina (R16), Svitolina (QF), and Swiatek (SF), as she now prepares to face Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
Keys also reached the final on an 11-match winning streak and stunned World No. 1 Sabalenka to claim the title. Andreeva, meanwhile, will aim for her second consecutive WTA 1000 title against a rival who holds a 4-1 head-to-head advantage over her. Still, the timing couldn’t be better for the Russian, who has already climbed to a career-high World No. 8 in the live rankings — and could rise to No. 6 if she lifts the trophy.
