Russia’s tennis star
Daria Kasatkina has hit back at a social media troll
on the social media. A user on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — trolled the 27-year-old in a detailed post where it was claimed that the reigning world number nine has never done well in big events and, in fact, her only good performances came in WTA 500 events.
“The girl only performs at 500s, and let me tell you nobody
cares about 500s consistency if you don't show up at big tournaments AS A TOP
10 PLAYER,” the user wrote in the post. In response to that, Kasatkina
responded in an interesting manner by stating that: “Didn’t know it bothers you
so much.”
Kasatkina had an impressive 2024 season where she won 40 out
of her 63 matches and suffered just 23 defeats. She ended up lifting two titles
in the calendar year and interestingly, both of them were the WTA 500 titles.
She first lifted the Rothesay International Eastbourne after beating Canada’s Leylah
Fernandez in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
She then lifted the Ningbo Open after beating fellow
countrywoman Mirra Andreeva in the final with a score of 6-0, 4-6, 6-4. Kasatkina,
however, did not have a great record while playing in the Grand Slams in 2024. Despite
playing in the main round of every mega-event, she failed to book her spot in
the last-eight of any event. Her best outing came at Wimbledon where she was
knocked out after losing in the third round to Spain’s Paula Badosa with a
score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.
