Running between February 24 - March 2, the ATX Open Austin is an Entry List that perhaps comes under fire more for who can't be in it as Jessica Pegula leads but without the star power of Madison Keys also.
Keys was subject to a perhaps harsh rule by the WTA meaning that 250-level tournaments can't have more than two top ten players. Despite entering the tournament when she was a top 15 player, Keys now can't play due to being top 10.
She has just won the Australian Open defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final. Pegula is the only top 10 star then who gets any sort of exemption. The week before Indian Wells, Pegula lost out in the third round of the Australian Open to Olga Danilovic so perhaps wants to regain some form.
She is joined by two dangerous rising Americans in Peyton Stearns and McCartney Kessler so there are still Americans, just not Keys. As well as those names the likes of Taylor Townsend, Tatjana Maria, Ajla Tomljanovic, Sorana Cirstea and Caroline Dolehide are all on the list.
Perhaps the better event though that week is in Merida, Mexico in a WTA 500 featuring Emma Navarro, Paula Badosa and Bianca Andreescu but Pegula will be main favourite.
