Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro being part of the top 20 were asked about the bombshell news that emerged on Wednesday regarding the ATP and WTA letter which demanded more prize money from the Grand Slams.
As it likely will it forced two polarising answers from two of America's top stars and two that are under the most scrutiny from the media ironically for wealth they don't have and moreso their family's wealth.
Often brandished billionaire's in newspapers, Pegula and Navarro though had two differing view points on the matter with Pegula refusing to answer in a very upfront way while Navarro on the otherhand confirmed she did co-sign the letter.
The letter which was revealed by L'Equipe didn't include any names but said that the top 20's in both sides of the sport had signed it but of course some will confirm their roles and others won't so it is more of a guessing game.
"Yeah. I haven’t — I guess I haven’t given that a ton of my energy. I talked a little bit to the other players about it and felt like it was a good idea to sign. And, yeah, I think there have been, I guess, some sort of unfair pay ratios — I don’t know the correct terminology — but in the past. And I think it’s a good cause to sort of come together as players and make sure we’re getting treated fairly," said Navarro after she opened her account with victory over Hailey Baptiste as per Bounces.
But while Navarro was open in her role, the second half of the players that are often brandished with the billionaire tag is Jessica Pegula who said that she couldn't go into details and wouldn't confirm or deny her involvement.
"I mean, that's something I don't want to talk about it too much. It's just something that we're working with our PBRs, WTA and ATP PBRs with. Hopefully we'll have more information about that soon but I don't want to go into that too much because, I don't know, I shouldn't."
