Iga Swiatek continues to make history at Indian Wells after becoming the first player ever to reach the tournament's semifinals for four consecutive years. The Pole is on her way to a third Tennis Garden title after defeating Zheng Qinwen 6-3, 6-3.
The women’s event has been held since 1989, and until now, no player had reached the semifinals four times in a row. Swiatek seems to have a knack for breaking records and will aim to keep advancing, setting new precedents.
With a 22-2 record (92%), she holds the best winning percentage in the tournament's history. She claimed the title in 2022 and 2024 — both times defeating Maria Sakkari in the final — and is one of just 10 players to win Indian Wells twice, alongside legends like Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Serena Williams, and Maria Sharapova. However, no one has ever won the trophy three times.
Swiatek appears to be a strong title contender, especially after dropping only 12 games in her last four matches. She crushed Caroline Garcia (6-2, 6-0), Dayana Yastremska (6-0, 6-2), and Karolina Muchova (6-1, 6-1). In the quarterfinals, Zheng Qinwen presented a tougher challenge, but Swiatek still secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory without much trouble.
The conditions at Tennis Paradise seem to suit Swiatek perfectly, as she has been relentless these past weeks. Although she hasn't claimed a title yet this season, she boasts an 18-4 record and holds the most wins in 2025.
The defending champion now awaits her next opponent between Mirra Andreeva (9th) and Elina Svitolina (23rd). Just two weeks ago, Andreeva stunned Swiatek in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships quarterfinals en route to her first WTA 1000 title. Facing Svitolina wouldn’t bring better memories either, as the Ukrainian eliminated Swiatek in the 2023 Wimbledon quarterfinals.
Swiatek will be aiming for the 27th final of her career (13th at WTA 1000 events). The impressive Pole continues to break records at just 23 years old, and winning the title would be crucial to stay close in the race for World No. 1 against Aryna Sabalenka.
