Gauff 'proud' of doubles partner Pegula for carrying on through mothers' cardiac arrest: "You would have never guessed all the things she's gone through"

Coco Gauff expressed pride in doubles partner Jessica Pegula for battling through all off-court problems admitting that she looks up to her.

Pegula and Gauff emerged as one of the most formidable doubles pairings on the WTA Tour last year. They are going ahead with the partnership this year and it's been a good run so far in Doha. Following her most recent win over Kvitova, Gauff opened up about Pegula's Player's Tribune piece where she disclosed some of the stuff that happened away from the court last year. She said:

“I read her Players' Tribune essay, and it was great. It was emotional. I'm glad she was able to get those thoughts out. Definitely probably not easy reliving a certain situation and sharing it to the world. I'm super proud of her for that.”

Gauff further added her admiration for Pegula:

“Honestly, I look up to her in that way. You know, I have been experiencing it up close, and just seeing the way she carries herself, you would have never guessed all the things she's gone through. So that speaks to her personality and speaks to her level of coolness. Hopefully, I can have that.”
