Mirra Andreeva brought her trademark humour to her pre-tournament press conference at Indian Wells with the 17-year-old Russian joking that she will soon become an old woman.

Andreeva will turn 18 during Madrid a few years on from her wildcard at the age of 15 which started off her incredible rise. As it comes full circle, she joked she can't be called an up and comer.

In reality that can be true as she is top 10 and has been on the senior tour for three years. It is similar to Coco Gauff who was around since she was 15 and now in her early 20's has become a tour staple despite still being relatively young.

“I don't know. You know, of course I'm going to be turning 18 soon, so, yes, I am becoming an old woman unfortunately,” she laughed during her pre tournament interview.

“So yeah. Well, I don't know if I can be an up-and-comer, I have no idea. I don't know.”

In addition, she spoke about Dubai and said she wants to move on from it and onto the next tournament where she will aim to scoop another WTA 1000 over the next week.

“I like to think that what happened happened, and of course after my win in Dubai, it felt amazing. I felt a lot of adrenaline, and I was of course super happy to win the tournament."

“But it's been almost two weeks now, I think maybe even more, and now I have to prepare for this tournament, I have to show my best tennis here, as well.

“I'm going also try to win this tournament and do my best here. You know, we're going to see what will happen.

“But now I like to put Dubai not in the past but, you know, to kind of move on a little bit, because it's already happened, and we have to still prepare for next matches and next tournaments.”
