Stefanos Tsitsipas managed a comeback win over Fabio Fognini that included stellar play by both and a bit of controversy during and after the match.
In the end he got beaten by Tsitsipas who was confused as to how it really happened saying after the match:
“Great comeback, honestly… I don’t know what happened. I really wanted to get back in the match and it happened somehow. From [a set and a break down] I just took it point by point and it worked out pretty well. A good mindset and also a bit of patience helped as well. I found solutions in those tough moments and really felt like I had momentum.”
The Italian complained a few times that Tsitsipas was getting coached from the stands but the umpire was not sympathetic towards the Italian who was starting to get annoyed by the shifting momentum as well. After the match, they exchanged some words but nothing serious happened and the players kept it civilised.
