Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated
Simona Halep in Indian Wells a few weeks ago and yesterday the Romanian was able to take her revenge.
In a very fun and entertaining affair, Halep was able to defeat Sasnovich rather easily. She cruised in the first set while also playing well in the 2nd set. She lost a bit of focus in the 2nd one complicating things but in the end composed herself in time to close it out in 2.
After the match Halep admitted that her opponent playing differently than in her previous match:
"I think she changed a little bit her game. She played a bit more faster and flatter, and it was really tough to return those balls. The ball didn't bounce that much so the rhythm changed."
In her own words, Simona admitted to playing a bit too defensive at times which is something she does not normally do and does not feel comfortable doing:
I think I stepped a little back and became defensive. But in the big picture I think it was a good match."
For Halep it's about building consistency after a very solid outing in Cluj-Napoca. A trophy would not be bad as well but it will only get tougher. Next up is Jasmine Paolini who hits the ball very hard and that could prove tricky for Halep if she plays defensively again.
