Upon hearing the news that Simona Halep will receive a four-year ban for doping, Eugenie Bouchard took a coy shot at the Romanian's expense.

Halep has been embroiled in litigations following her suspension over anti-doping violations, with the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) handing down a four-year ban after undergoing a lengthy investigation.

The Canadian has made her anti-doping stance very clear over the years, engaging in feuds with the retired Maria Sharapova and Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska after both were involved in doping allegations. The former Wimbledon runner-up took to Twitter to make a rather cryptic, subtle post, perhaps taking a shot at Halep's situation.

"I was told not to tweet today," wrote Bouchard.

Halep, who has been provisionally suspended since October 2022, will not be able to play professional tennis again until 6 October 2026 – although the case remains subject to appeal. Halep subsequently said she plans to appeal.
