Born in 1980, the seven-time Major champion is the most experienced player on the WTA ranking list, followed by her sister Serena, a year younger.
Venus didn't make a good start to the season, falling to Petra Kvitova at the Yarra Valley Classic in two tight sets, suffering an early Australian Open loss and failing to win a match in Miami. The veteran is still eager to chase titles and improve her ranking position for the rest of the season, loving the game that gave her so much.
In a recent podcast, Venus revealed that she and her sister Serena are entirely different, making it hard for their father Richard to manage them individually. Also, Venus mentioned that their parents never pushed them to win every match, teaching them how to value the world around them and try to be better persons and players.
"My dad insisted on a big game because I was not like Serena. I was the slicer and dicer one. Her nature was completely different, but it makes her a different person and a player. My dad, you know, created this game of power, and we only played offense.
We could play defense. But we played offense even when someone played defense. My parents never put pressure on us to win, like we need to win for them, and that was great. We are grounded because we have a strong spiritual faith and background. That was the most important thing that our parents gave," Venus Williams said.
