Nick Kyrgios as he did for Jannik Sinner has responded scathingly amid the row surrounding
Iga Swiatek testing positive for banned substance TMZ.
Swiatek tested positive earlier this season but the details were relayed yesterday with the ITIA. The former World No.1 took her suspension during the period in which she initially said she was merely making changes to her team during the Asian swing.
A crux of that meant that she lost her top spot in the rankings amid point fines for not showing up to mandatory tournaments. But tennis fans and players have been baffled at not only the fact that it was swept under the rug until now but the tiny ban that was given.
Kyrgios was one of the leading players to hit out at Sinner during a similar case this year which also bore no fault or negligence but he could yet receive a ban.
“1 month ban. It’s not even April fools day. Don’t play with us like that. Two number 1s in the world failing drug tests in the same year is wild," said Benjamin Lock who is World No.337.
To which Kyrgios responded: “Our sport is cooked.” Well known social media user Pavvy G wrote: “They think we are all stupid,” to which Kyrgios responded sarcastically: "No they both just didn't know" with a laughing emoji.
Asked for a 'bold prediction' for the 2025 season, he continued on that theme: “That our world number 1’s won’t fail drug tests," he said.
Another accused Kyrgios of merely being jealous of Jannik Sinner: “Italians do it better. Don’t be jealous that he is better than you.” To which he responded scathingly: "What this gotta do with the fact he failed the drug tests penguin."
He wrote further with a few more retweets and replies: “The excuse that we can all use is that we didn’t know. Simply didn’t know. Professionals at the highest level of sport can now just say ‘we didn’t know’.”
Kyrgios is set to return to the sport in early 2025 at the Brisbane International and also hit out at Jannik Sinner earlier this year as a leading voice amid the doping row surrounding the Italian.
