WTA legends Serena Williams and Venus Williams were introduced to tennis by their father, Richard Williams, before being trained by Rick Macci. Recently, the legendary coach took to social media to share an early memory involving Richard.
Both Williams sisters have careers that rank as among the best in tennis history, and Richard was instrumental in developing their winning mindset. The Louisiana native's journey was chronicled in the biopic, King Richard, which received high praise from Venus and Serena for it's authenticity.
After his daughters began showing a strong affinity for tennis, Richard enrolled them in Rick Macci's tennis academy in Boca Raton, Florida during the early 1990's. Macci took to social media on Sunday to share an anecdote involving the entire Williams family.
"Richard Williams is the funniest and most honest guy I ever met. He said from day one. Venus throws her entire body at the ball. Serena throws her beads at the balls. The wife throws a good meal every night. Every day I just throw a tantrum! @Venuseswilliamsn @serenawilliams," wrote Macci on Twitter.
Macci is renown for training players who have risen to the top of the tennis circuit. His students include five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova, former World No.1 Andy Roddick and three-time Grand Slam titlist Jennifer Capriati.
