The Miami Open heads onto Day Two with both ATP and WTA stars in action including Emma Raducanu, Nick Kyrgios, Victoria Azarenka and Belinda Bencic.
Day One saw Naomi Osaka survive an opening scare as she admitted afterwards that she just wanted to hit the reset button. One that Emma Raducanu likely has to hit in her opener.
Raducanu has gone through a tough few months heightened of course by her stalking ordeal at the recent Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships which means she now has to be flanked by security at all times.
The Brit opens up against Sayaka Ishii. A rising 19-year-old who will hope to take the scalp of the former US Open champion. If she does get through it is another tough test with Emma Navarro waiting as the eighth seed. Linda Noskova also sits in the same section. So the smart money perhaps is on Navarro v Noskova but can Raducanu finally showcase her ability in one of these tournaments?
She is first up so will be on around 4pm UK time for those in her home country wanting to tune in. Gael Monfils follows on in a fun tie with Fabian Marozsan in what is back-to-back battles of showmen of tennis as Nick Kyrgios is perhaps the other leading light involved on Wednesday.
Kyrgios has had a busy time of it with the lawsuit against the tennis governing bodies which features him as well as his recent issues at Indian Wells where he left the court in floods of tears as he couldn't continue with his wrist injury. He faces a player who came through qualifying too in Mackenzie McDonald so is very much match sharp and any such issues with Kyrgios will be pounced upon.
It seems to be a day-by-day problem with some days Kyrgios being ok and others not so much so which version turns up will always be unknown. But despite that he will always receive top billing and be on one of the main courts whether there are doubts about his injury or not.
Living in Florida for most of her life in Boca Raton, Victoria Azarenka can basically call this a home tournament. Danielle Collins last year also thrived having an event on her doorstep but can the multiple Grand Slam champion. She opens her quest against Anhelina Kalinina. The winner faces Karolina Muchova.
Victoria Azarenka lives in nearby Boca Raton but can she harness the power of her home state?
Muchova has been steady albeit some have mooted that she looks like she might be carrying an injury or isn't at full throttle having been easily beaten by Iga Swiatek at Indian Wells. But having been one of the best players on tour since her return last year, she will want to head into Miami back on form. Also she doesn't defend a single point on her rankings for some time having sat out most of the last season and and a half so is a bit of an anomaly seed wise. She will be back inside the top 10 soon but can Azarenka or Kalinina stop her.
Thiago Seyboth Wild and Quentin Halys end off, while the talk of showmen earlier is apparent also on Grandstand as Alexander Bublik faces Sebastian Baez. But there are multiple top WTA ties also to come which in reality could grace Stadium.
Boulter v Stearns and Bencic v Yastremska standouts
Those being Katie Boulter facing off against Peyton Stearns in a battle of two gritty tennis stars who leave it all on the court and likely three sets can be expected. As well as Dayana Yastremska v Belinda Bencic.
Bencic like Muchova won't stick in her ranking for long and perhaps even quicker. She has been back towards her best in her opening tournaments of the season after becoming a mother. She won Abu Dhabi and has been steady since. Elina Svitolina could await and she is very much the one unseeded player that no one wants to draw right now.
Belinda Bencic could set up an all mothers clash with Elina Svitolina.
Elsewhere in other ties to watch, Ajla Tomljanovic was serving looks at a party last night with Donna Vekic which was put on the WTA's new look socials but she will hope to let her racquet do the talking too. She faces Bernarda Pera.
Rising star Alexandra Eala faces Katie Volynets. Others to watch on outside courts include Anastasia Potapova facing Kimberly Birrell, Caroline Garcia could face Iga Swiatek again. She opens up against Anna Bondar. Sister of Mirra, Erika Andreeva beat her in Wuhan last year but it is the former again stealing the spotlight. She opens up against Elina Avanesyan.
David Goffin and Corentin Moutet are the pick of any other men's matches as Day Two begins. The top names will be involved towards the end of the week.
