The
21-year-old tennis player experienced her first-round exit of the season in
four tournaments, displaying a subpar performance. Despite showing some
promising performances upon her return to the WTA Tour, she struggles to secure
consecutive victories.
Raducanu
has no upcoming tournaments in the next few weeks of February and could
potentially return at the next Indian Wells, scheduled between March 6-17.
However, she hopes to receive a wild card since her ranking won't be
sufficient for direct entry.
The former
world No. 10 acknowledged that the match's timing affected her and that she
still needs time to readjust to the schedule: “It was a combination of things.
It was my first day-match I have played in a year. That is different,” Raducanu
said.
"I
just struggled with the timing of the ball. It will come with more time
practicing as well as matches. It is hard for me to get used to the tour
schedule,” she added.
However,
fan criticisms were relentless in what has arguably been Raducanu's worst match
in the early stages of 2024. Here are some comments from fans on social
media:
“She should
just retire at this point. it's a disgrace”
“48 unforced
errors from Raducanu. Absolutely shambolic.”
“This match was
never gonna go 3 sets… raducanu in a hurry to get take some pictures for her
instagram”
