Boris Becker and Caroline Wozniacki were among those who congratulated Belinda Bencic after she won her first title as a mother. The former world No. 4 lifted her ninth trophy by defeating Ashlyn Krueger in the final.

Bencic had an inspired week, beating rivals like Marketa Vondrousova and Elena Rybakina to claim the WTA 500 Abu Dhabi Open title, which she had also won in 2023. The former world No. 4 now holds an 11-2 record in 2025.

The Swiss player’s success has been one of the standout stories at the start of the year, as returning from maternity leave often takes time for players to regain their top level. However, Bencic quickly returned to the tour and started delivering strong results against elite competition.

Bencic’s triumph surprised former world No. 1 Boris Becker, who left a congratulatory message for the 27-year-old. “That’s what you call a comeback…. Well done, Belinda B,” he wrote on X.

The Swiss player shared an Instagram post celebrating her latest title: “Pretty special, #9.” She received messages from several fellow players, including former Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki and doubles specialist Taylor Townsend—both of whom have also returned to tennis after becoming mothers.

“Congrats, mama!! ❤️” wrote Wozniacki, who has two children born in 2021 and 2022. “This is the best!! Congratulations, my girl ❤️🔥🏆” added Taylor Townsend, who also became a mother back in 2021.

“So happy for you!!!” commented Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk.

Other well-known players also congratulated Bencic, including Barbora Strycova, Daniela Hantuchova, Shelby Rogers, and her compatriot Celine Naef.
