Former world No. 1 Martina Navratilova stated that Emma Raducanu has "the sky as the limit" if she manages to resolve her issues with coaches. The 2021 US Open champion has struggled to find stability in her team after separating from coach Vladimir Platenik after just a few weeks.
Raducanu worked with Nick Cavadat during the previous year following surgeries on both wrists to overcome injury problems. They parted ways in January, and Raducanu brought in Slovak Platenik as an advisor, but they both decided to end their relationship.
The former world No. 10 has had her 8th coach since winning the US Open, many of which have been short-lived partnerships. However, she managed to reach the quarterfinals at the Miami Open, her first-ever WTA 1000 quarterfinal appearance.
Raducanu also defeated Emma Navarro, marking her first win over a top-10 player on hardcourts.
However, Raducanu eventually lost in the quarterfinals to Jessica Pegula, who went on to be a finalist at the tournament. Despite the loss, Raducanu moved up to her best ranking since 2022, reaching world No. 47. With few points to defend in the coming months, Navratilova backed the Brit to secure a seeding at the French Open.
"If she stays healthy and plays this well, then she'll be seeded at Roland Garros. I think she'll move up the ranking well enough into the top 30. The biggest question mark is her health," said the 18-time Grand Slam champion.
"Hopefully she can sort out her coaching situation because she's been in a state of flux, but I think she needs to commit to somebody and stay with them for a little bit, see how that works," she added. "If she played like she did against Pegula, then the sky's the limit."
