Alja Tomljanovic's father stole the show during an episode of Break Point but not in a good way as many wondered whether the relationship looked healthy.
There has been much speculation about father-daughter relationships on the tennis Tour with some being quite toxic. After a video of a father beating his daughter on a tennis court emerged last year, the WTA Tour stepped up its safeguarding policies in order to protect its players better.
Well, some fans wondered about the relationship between Tomljanovic and her father. It showed a clip of her father at Wimbledon trying to find her a hotel as he didn't book one long enough anticipating an earlier exit from the event. When Tomljanovic made it to the quarter-final, well he had to scramble trying to find a hotel and the scene was shown in Break Point:
"I'm trying to find a hotel. We had a hotel till today.
And now I have to find a hotel. I don't care, she can not fire me, I'm
her father, so. It's not that I didn't believe that she could win this
match, I just wanted to save her money. She would freak out if she has
to move."
Tennis reporter James Gray commented on the dynamic on social media saying:
"One of the most uncomfortable parts of Break Point for
me. You obviously only get a snapshot but it didn’t strike me as a
healthy relationship."
Tomljanovic herself said in the episode that she couldn't do it without her dad, who knows her best:
"I couldn't do it without my dad, because, he knows me the best."
Many fans used that in response to the journalist explaining that the relationship looks fine. What do you think? Check out the video below and let us know in the comments below.
